Role Description and Responsibilities
The external reporting manager is a highly visible role within BMS. This position has significant interaction with internal finance at all levels of the organization and the external auditor, substantial exposure to pharmaceutical industry accounting and reporting practices. Additionally, this role provides an opportunity to further develop financial reporting and analysis skills and strengthen verbal and written communication skills, and lead and influence others as part of the financial statement preparation and reporting process. The primary responsibilities of the role include:
Managing and filing the Company’s annual 10-K and quarterly 10-Q financial statements with the SEC, including the related XBRL filings;
Preparation of financial information supporting the Company’s annual report;
Drafting management discussion and analysis and notes to financial statement disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements;
Monitoring technical accounting and disclosure requirement changes for new accounting standard implementation support;
Maintaining internal control documentation supporting the financial statement preparation and filing processes;
Analysis of peer company financial filings for best practice incorporation into BMS financial reporting.
The external reporting manager also will have frequent interactions with input providers at all levels of the organization, including legal counsel, investor relations, tax, treasury, business unit functions, and the broader Controllers’ team, including the VP Corporate Controller and VP Assistant Controller, and the external audit team.
The candidate must possess a B.S. or B.A. degree in Accounting and be a CPA. 6 years of relevant experience required, either in public accounting or headquarters in a large multi-national organization. Experience with employee benefit plan filings, including Form 5500 filings and 11-K fillings, is a plus. Must possess in-depth knowledge of external reporting including SEC requirements, a strong understanding of financial statement disclosure best practices, financial accounting standards disclosure requirements and corporate accounting and reporting systems such as Workiva and SAP. The successful candidate will interact independently with senior financial management, manage and prioritize information reporting under tight deadlines, analyze and solve problems, be a self-starter, learn quickly, work independently and motivate others in a matrix environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
Provides exposure to senior management and cross-functional finance teams. Improves verbal and written communication skills. Influences and guides many levels of management and staff within BMS through the financial statement reporting process. Develops current working knowledge of accounting theory under U.S. GAAP, IFRS and other relevant financial accounting standards. Increases an understanding of rules issued by the U.S. SEC, and BMS internal finance policies. Broadens financial insight into industry accounting and reporting practices. Improves critical thinking and analysis skills.
