This role is responsible for overseeing BMS’s relationship management processes with its global service partners supporting clinical trials primarily in BMS’s immuno-oncology clinical research space. Within the remit of this role are service partnerships supporting CRO services, central laboratory, biomarker laboratory analysis, bio-storage, centralized imaging services, patient services, core technology and Functional Service Providers.
In addition to providing oversight to the day to day operations of the Alliance Management functions, the Director, Global Alliance Management will also be responsible for embedding organizational goals and objectives relevant to alliance management, setting departmental priorities, defining a clear BMS approach to working with our service providers based on accountability and fairness, establishing and analyzing team metrics & KPIs, providing guidance and approval for continuous improvement initiatives and monitoring the resourcing needs of the group.
Direct Line Management of BMS’s Alliance Management team consisting of individually contributing Alliance Managers (Vendor Relationship Leads) overseeing our relationships with service partners providing services that include, but may not be limited to CRO services, central laboratory, biomarker laboratory analysis, bio-storage, centralized imaging services, patient services, core technology and Functional Service Providers
Leading BMS’s Alliance Management function to embed industry-leading processes and principles that define how BMS interacts with and manages its service provider partnerships, promoting a culture of trust, accountability, partnership and a joint desire for operational excellence
Actively own and participate in all relevant Governance activities including, but not limited to helping to establish new governance models for new partnerships, contribute to the development, finalization and roll-out of governance documentation e.g. Governance Charters, Quality Agreements, Issue Escalation & Resolution Plans, etc., participating in ongoing governance meetings as needed including Operational Management Committee and Strategic Management Committee meetings
Representing BMS at senior-level partnership meetings and negotiations
Working within BMS’s matrix structure to establish efficient and effective processes to manage externally the relationship with BMS’s service partners and manage internally the relationship with and needs of the groups internal customers
Leading the development of processes that govern the interaction of BMS’s service providers and internal BMS functional teams to foster strong working relationships and prompt and equitable resolution to conflict and disagreements
Resource planning and management, working with the Group Director CTBP to ensure adequate resources are available to manage the book of work and proactive resource planning to ensure future resourcing is in line with forecasted business needs
Setting goals and objectives for the Alliance Management function that are aligned with the business objectives of the organization and establishing appropriate metrics, KPIs and scorecards to measure achievement of those goals and objectives
Continuous review of Alliance Management systems, structure and processes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement initiatives and leading or delegating leadership of these initiatives to ensure their timely and effective development and implementation
Working with the Group Director CTBP and other peer leaders to establish operational priorities for the Alliance Management function
Working with Global Procurement and other BMS functions to select and onboard new vendors
Act as a point of escalation for significant issues or issues that are not easily resolvable at the team level
A minimum of a BA or BS Degree in a clinical or scientific discipline (advanced degree a plus)
10 years industry experience (pharma, biotech, CRO) required; scientific, financial, and business problem solving experience desired
Prior experience with Alliance Management, Account Management, Outsourcing Management, Business Operations or Business Development within the pharma/biotech/CRO industry required
Strong technical and problem solving skills, excellent understanding of clinical trial methodology, GCP, clinical dev., quality & regulatory standards and policies relevant to the services within the remit of the role
Direct people management experience with demonstrated competencies in growth mindset strategies, mentoring and coaching and a strong proven desire share knowledge and experience in order to promote the professional development of others
Proven ability to engage teams and inspire them to sustain high levels of performance in a constantly changing environment
Prior experience of developing and implementing significant process improvement projects (lean six sigma experience preferred)
Proven experience in influencing key internal and external stakeholders (including senior leaders) to obtain buy-in in order to implement change
Proven ability in conflict management and resolution with experience of building and maintaining relationships under undesirable and/or confrontational situations
Effective management of cross-functional, multi-cultural teams and demonstrated ability to work and influence within a matrix structure
Excellent oral and written communication skills and diplomacy to convey information and influence others with a strong customer focus
Demonstrates a high level of adaptability in dealing with ambiguous and complex work environment and balances multiples demands on role in a responsive and professional manner
