Reporting to the Head of GPS Operational Excellence & Project Management Office (OpEx PMO) and a member of the OpEx PMO Leadership Team, this position will lead strategic and operational priorities for OpEx PMO. This position will be responsible for managing the holistic OpEx strategy while contributing to successful deployment of OpEx at key sites. The position will partner with other OpEx PMO leaders and business leaders and stakeholders to ensure successful execution of the OpEx strategy and ensuring the achievement of intended business value.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Manage the execution of the OpEx strategy across GPS in collaboration with other OpEx PMO leaders, business leaders and stakeholders

• Serve as chief of staff for the OpEx PMO

• Determining the strategic priorities for the organization in support of the realization of GPS strategic objectives and successful implementation and rollout of various strategic initiatives

• Develop, deploy and manage a simple process to capture and make visible realized OpEx PMO business benefits in terms of People, Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost

• Establish and engage the OpEx/PMO Ecosystem to identify areas of opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring

• Manage departmental budget and cost management expertise and practices

• Develop and lead weekly, quarterly and annual team and departmental meeting and ensure clear action items and follow-up after the meetings; Plan & lead annual Leadership offsite objectives and strategy sessions

• Manage external relationships including benchmarking activities and external consultants

• Partner with peer companies, leading lean firms and thought leaders to bring best in class practices into BMS

• Serve as the point contact for the extended OpEx PMO network within GPS and BMS as a whole

• Manage and continue improving the OpEx PMO management system, ensuring strong connection between the global team and the extended OpEx PMO network

• Responsible for managing the GPS LT score card and effective and timely communication to GPS LT

• Lead efforts to improve OpEx PMO team effectiveness, including organizing and facilitating team building activities and standard team meetings

• Partner with outside thought leaders to look for ways to continue enhancing the OpEx PMO team effectiveness

• Participate and lead training sessions as required, including Train-the-Trainer sessions

• Lead improvement efforts for prioritized processes in partnership with other OpEx team members

• Support other initiatives as required

• Partner with other OpEx Directors and team members to ensure standardization

• Apply change management methods to ensure effective execution of OpEx and to promote a culture and mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement

• Build, maintain and leverage relationships across the matrix to identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of processes and staying up to date on developments in process improvement methodologies and best practices

Job Qualifications:

• Scientific or Engineering Bachelor’s degree

• Minimum of 12 years of experience in Operations/Operational Excellence roles in Chemical/Life science/Biotech industry utilizing “lean” principles

• Demonstrated experience working with external thought leaders and industry leading experts

• Experience successfully managing programs and projects from inception through realization

• Ability to think creatively and establish programs to enhance team effectiveness

• Experience leading teams both directly and indirectly

• Experience working with executive level leaders

• Ability to navigate the organization and build strong relationships with all levels of the organization

• Ability to collaborate across boundaries (both internally and externally)

• Ability to connect lean to improving compliance, safety, quality, delivery and efficiency

• Demonstrated success in coaching and influencing executive level leaders

• Ability to influence leaders and team members without direct authority

• Demonstrated success in developing team members in lean leadership

• Demonstrated success using lean to optimize business processes

• Track record of success in the rigorous planning, execution and timely delivery of enterprise level projects and programs

• Demonstrated success leading change (both cultural and technical) to achieve continuous improvement

• Demonstrated success working with outside organizations to leverage external best practices

• Builds relationships, able to negotiate & influence, and manage change in matrix environment

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing portfolio of projects and in leading change through others to achieve operational excellence

• Superior written and verbal communication, presentation, facilitations, and interpersonal skills

• Required travel of about 40% of the time
