The GPS (Global Product Development and Supply) Analytics team is a newly formed team within Business Insights and Analytics focused on partnering with the BMS GPS organization to answer key business questions that will drive significant value and prioritized business decisions using advanced analytics and data. These questions span the full spectrum of GPS responsibility from Product Development through Manufacturing Operations, Quality and Global Supply Chain.
Purpose/Objective of the job
The Director of Business Performance Management (BPM) will lead efforts to optimize GPS’ Business Performance Management such as metrics automation, insight, scorecard and dashboard visualization and provide contextual industry level benchmarking so as to derive actionable insights on how GPS can enhance its overall performance. They will do so by:
Developing and implementing a Business Performance Management Strategy – In partnership with the GPS Analytics Leadership Team, the Director will develop a comprehensive BPM Analytics Strategy focused on transforming how GPS currently utilizes metrics/scorecards/dashboards. Additionally the strategy will outline best practices, user experience standards and mechanisms to maximize use of BMS standard visualization tools.
Strengthening Partnerships – The Director will play an important role in developing and strengthening the relationship between BIA teams, GPS Business Performance Stakeholders across GPS (Global Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, Product Development, Operational Excellence, Finance and Leadership), IT and relevant BMS enterprise functions to ensure optimal engagement with stakeholders and that BPM activities are driving value for the business.
Building and Driving BPM Capabilities – The Director will play a critical role in development and implementation of innovative solutions and tools related to BPM. The Director will lead efforts to develop BPM prototypes leveraging an agile approach and partner with BIA GPS Functional Teams, IT and Operational Excellence organizations to drive uptake and engrain the analytical solutions into core business processes. The Director will ensure that solutions/outputs are consumable for the business to use and lead refinements of the solutions to maximize value delivery. Lastly the Director will also create a model for optimizing delivery and efficiency of business performance reporting/visualizations with a selected BMS Analytics partner.
Integrating benchmarking into BPM activities – In addition to the BPM strategy, the Director will also set a roadmap for building benchmarking capabilities into the function. These benchmarks, founded on external data sources (e.g. Gartner, purchased and publicly available sources), will provide BIA and GPS insights on pharma and non-pharma performance to guide GPS and BMS on how business performance is measured. Additionally the benchmarks will provide insight into new approaches or new metrics (e.g. identification of leading indicators, or better ways at measuring our performance).
Masters in analytical / quantitative field (i.e. statistics, engineering, computer science) & 7+ years of experience implementing advanced analytics to address significant business problem
Experience leading teams and adapting in an analytical context
Deep experience with visualization, metrics reporting and management and user experience design
Experience and conversant in applied analytics for solving business problems including experience developing frameworks around business performance management
Proven experience operating successfully in a complex organizational environment
Experience interacting with senior management, understanding, anticipating, and fulfilling their insight/analytical information requirements
Can communicate effectively to audiences of varying degrees of familiarity with analytics
Can conceptualize business problems and develop frameworks around analytical methods for teams
Skilled and passionate about integrating analytics into business processes
Able to build effective relationships with stakeholders and business partners
Strong project management and people development skills
Familiarity and knowledge of some of the following analytical tools (including, but not limited to):
Database architecture: SAP HANA, SQL, Oracle
Analytics platforms: R, Python, etc
Visualization: Tableau, Spotfire, Clickview, D3, etc
Familiarity with BMS applications (including SAP, LIMS, OSI Pi, Veeva, Trackwise,) a plus
