In this role, the Senior Director, WW Cell Therapy Medical Affairs, Strategy and Operations: is responsible for the operational oversight and planning across the WW Medical Affairs Cell therapy TA , including establishing processes and guiding ways of working principle development and establishment within medical and with cross-functional partners, metric development, brand and medical planning, budget planning, congress planning, workforce planning, and planning and execution of special projects. The Medical Affairs Strategy and Operations lead is responsible for partnering with colleagues in Medical Affairs or in other functions to lead or support Strategic Planning responsibilities. There is a critical need in this complex ecosystem of therapeutic assets and disease areas to bring rigorous strategy and execution to portfolio optimization, evidence generation across the portfolio and to ensure effective, repeatable launches that will benefit patients.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • This key role will be the strategic and operational partner to the VP and Head, WW Medical Cell Therapy. As such, it is critical that they are able to effectively and efficiently collaborate with/advise both their operating partner and other leaders in the organization to evaluate, assess, design, enhance and develop long and short-term strategies for medical affairs operations (1-5 years). The role has extremely broad scope and complexity, needing to influence strategy execution and medical launch excellence across a very broad portfolio in the US, Major Markets and InterContinental.

  • Working with Asset Teams to establish and/or review on a regular basis the Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs) development for each asset for life cycle management in collaboration with key cross-functional stakeholders. Serve as counterpart to the Head of MEG Hematology and Cell Therapy to oversee the entire MEG BOW with an estimated annula budget of $50 M will be a ket deliverable working with Matrix partners to ensure this is domne to time Cost and Quality

  • The successful candidate will also coordinate portfolio management & planning, provide guidance to stakeholders regarding budget trends, P&L guidance, implications and identify opportunities and solutions. As such, it is critical that candidates have a demonstrated track record of execution medical affairs strategic planning and execution at local, regional and global level and having been able to develop and engage a matrix team in order to identify opportunities and hurdles and propose appropriate solutions including proposals for resource allocation with the right skills to appropriate projects/initiatives.

  • Extensive experience translating strategy to actionable projects and initiatives is also required of the candidate

  • Working with Medical Affairs IT to evaluate hardware and software packages for Global Medical Affairs, evaluating the budget impact, compatibility with existing systems, resource needs for implementation.

  • Working with procurement to find cost-efficient, high quality verndor soutions to support tactical implementation.

  • In collaboration with Finance, establish budgets for Medical Affairs (includes MEG budgets). Work with MEH and Finance to forecast MEG cost recognition and develop risk-adjustment model to allow better forecasting of committed spending.

  • Work closely with HR in the areas of recruitment, workforce planning, contingent workforce resource planning, succession planning, organizational structure, and other HR-related matters.

  • Work closely with Head WW Cell Therapy Medical, to attract the best talent for open positions.

  • Track against workforce plans and budget performance against plans monthly

  • Develop Medical Affairs Excellence dashboards for deliverables and communicate appropriately on a regular basis.

  • Work with CT Scientific Communications to track abstracts and publications against the plans Work with our CT MedComm team to continue to assess Heme pubs, resources, and congress planning

  • The individual in this role must be able to monitor and assess external trends to inform and educate stakeholders and stay abreast of macro trends in the healthcare environment, therapeutic area market and brand business drivers. A critical aspect of this role is the ability to work seamlessly across the BMS enterprise (both within and outside Medical and form a strong partnership with commercial) and coordinate the input of stakeholders

  • Work with other key stakeholders in regions to identify best practices of all Medical Affairs Functions, evaluate skills, competencies and capabilities in the groups, and identify areas that can be improved.

  • Responsible for special projects that require Medical Leadership and involve cross-functional teams.

  • Lead the development & implementation of a solid infrastructure to support Medical functions globally

  • Active member of the WW Cell Therapy Medical Affairs Leadership Team.

  • Cultivate WW Hematology connectivity & engagement to ensure high performing teams eliminating barriers of execution and ensuring well-being of the team.

  • Oversee/Supervise contracted Syneos PMs in ensuring equity in workload and clarity on deliverables to support the WWMH organization

  • Development of Project Management (PM) Resource Plan in collaboration with LT, by identifying execution gaps and designing a plan to ensure flexibility in coverage and execution of medical affairs activities

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • International experience highly desirable, US and global experience preferred .

  • Advanced degree preferred. 15 plus years of direct professional experience in Pharmaceutical development in life sciences, biopharmaceuticals; strong understanding of biopharma drug development and commercialization process. Seeking balanced combination of scientific and business acumen

  • Demonstrated strength in understanding overarching company goals, performing strategic assessments, and developing clearly framed choices and recommendations

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred; 10+ years portfolio management/leadership

  • Prior experience as ‘Chief of staff’ to executive level preferred

  • Experience working across a range of Medical and/or clinical development roles a plus

  • Experience in analytics, particularly in relation to product launches

  • Experience in project and/or portfolio management with the ability to develop clear action plans and execute

  • Ability to build relationships, influence and drive organizational engagement at all levels

  • Ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, negotiate and collaborate

  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven track record of effective people management including coaching, motivating and development planning in a multicultural environment.
